Default Opinions on ‘70 454?

Hello everyone. I was looking for opinions on this ‘70 454 4-speed outside of Vegas. The price seems high, but it’s the mechanical stuff I know nothing about. It has been listed online for a very long time. That typically means one of two things, car is a pass or the price is too high.

I spoke to the owner at length. He is actually the owner of the selling car company itself, and this is his personal car. He said the car is in great condition, that it had a frame off restoration before he bought it, and the way it presents is the way he bought it. The spare tire has not been re-mounted, but he has it.

I’d greatly appreciate any opinions about the car.

Thanks!

There are many more photos from the listing, but I wanted to attach a couple of under the hood photos.

Looks nice, but it probably needs factory ac and NCRS top flight to bring $65k

I think you could find a better car for 60 grand or less. BTW it is a no A/C car. Silly pictures, no substance, original motor, Birdcage? This car is for the guy who hits a jackpot in Vegas and runs over and buys it.

Thanks, everyone. This is very helpful (and probably why it hasn’t sold).

You need to get the Corvette DNA phone app. Very good and very good details. Says 34k excellent but slightly used. or 56k show condition, that means Top Flight.
Code 976 is for Mulsane Blue so it is painted incorrectly in Bridgehampton Blue, that is a 979 code. Prettier Blue though. Not a biggie, but that means not a Top Flight car. So right there you know more than he. So offer him low/mid 40s & see if he bites. You already know he'll make money. And all of a car dealers cars are their "personal" cars LOL.

Looks very good though. A full restoration may be up your alley. I almost wish I had bought something like that! I have 40k in parts in my garage and the car is still in 2000 pieces!
454, 4spd, PS, PB, Tilt, no AC. Very nice car, nicely optioned, and very clean. a M21 Close ratio and a 3.70 rear with a BB is going to make it feel very very strong from a stoplight, but it is going to cost you at the pump, and not be comfortable at highway speeds due to the noise. Ok at 50-60. Low teens MPG if you're lucky. With a Big Block you can easily run 3.23 rear gears for cruising, even lower. This one should be very powerful, It should kill the tires in first if you floor it, even from a roll. Is that what you want?

A 1970 454 was the last year for high compression and it may not even run well, or just barely, on 93 octane pump premium. It will not run well on cheaper gas.
Big Blocks are cool and unique, just know what you are jumping in to!

The frame looks great, but if it were me I would still want to see the #2 body bolts.

454 with no A/C you will lose weight rapidly in that cabin 🤣 if you like cruising on the highway or taking long trips that is not the motor for you !! 60k way to high 40 to 45k

No affiliation with the seller, but this car looks really nice and is being offered by a forum member. There are several options in the FS section. Just a thought. The seller is now offering the car at $49,900. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...90-engine.html

Car seems decent but from the quick glance at the photos in this thread, the alternator and master cylinder are not original. The alternator is also missing the wire holder bracket. If he wants $60k that is strong money and would expect it to be 100% correct and not some easy over sites.

If you like the car enough you can get it regardless of what others think. I would get with some local NCRS folks to have it looked at and also do a pre-buy inspection from someone that you pick and not the selling place.
