Working on my emergency brake handle and needed to remove the spring to the cable under the car. This is the spring that goes right behind the adjustment nut.
Now I can't seem to figure out how to go about this correctly.
I can't seem to pull the spring enough to get on this nut and I can't tighten the nut enough to get close enough.
I think I grabbed the right portion of the spring near the nut with vice-grip pliers.
Then I worked the spring out of the hole by using a twisting motion with the pliers.
It wasn't easy.
While you are under there try adjusting the E-brake shoes closer to the drums before reinstalling the spring.

That sounds correct. Needle-nose vise grip pliers worked for me, too.
It seems like I loosened the bracket that you can find following those cables back to the rear. Loosen, mind you, not remove. That'll create a whole new vocabulary........ Then don't forget to retighten after replacing the spring.
