Evapo-Rust
I have a gallon in a rubber tote, and put the transmission pan in,it’s been soaking over night
I didn’t take a before picture, this is what it looks like after one night, completely dissolved rust other than under the lip as you can see,and the whole pan was rusted like this.
So,will flip the pan over and let it soak till all the rust is removed.
The whole piece will look like the bottom, and paint it back black again.this stuff is terrific no work, just let it sit in evapo-rust.
Been using it for quite a while now. Here's another before and after example on a 73-74 454 EGR Valve "Hold Down" bracket.
Before Evapo Rust!
After using Evapo Rust with a light coat of clear matte spray finish applied!

There’s a paste version? Has anyone every used this? I’ve always had great luck with the liquid, but not great for stuff too big or hard to get to to soak
i bought the 5 gallon pail
lasted me a couple years and this is my third pail
but to prolong the evap rust
i would buy 5% vinegar and let it do all the dirty work then a final rust removal using evap
some clean parts with light rust use evap
i have rusted rims and I just used vinegar in a tub and use a steel brush and it takes off most heavy rust then stick in my bead blaster to give it a quick clean vs spending a lot of time blasting and wearing down the sand
i wouldn’t waste the evap rust in a tub to clean rims
evap will take off the patina if an item is plated and if it has ink markings from the factory
i accidentally left hose clamps for too long and evapo rust disintegrated the clamps
but let me know what you want to use the evap for and I can guide you
thanks

i agree really great stuff... and all bare metal i use matte clear.. like this car bracket.. etc..(and a Lar's rebuild
)Water neck i left bare as OEM i assume and not bare steel.
NOTE lesson learned in winter.... IT WILL NOT WORK IF BELOW 70f.. read instructions..keep warm
Tom,If the brackets are left in the stuff too long (as grantstigers mentions) it will take of the black oxide plating, pretty much down to bare metal. Actually, the one I posted above just has a light coat or two of clear matte sprayed over it. If I need to I just spray a very light coat of flat black over the part, then a light coat of satin clear over that to try to give it that black oxide appearance. Below, I attached a few photos of my collection (NFS)
of big and small block EGR valve brackets, to show some differences. In the first photo the brackets at the left were left unfinished after I used EVAPO Rust to remove light surface rust. I removed them before it took away the oxide plating. The red arrow points to the bracket I posted above with the matte clear. Other brackets to the right in the photo have a coat of flat black with different amounts of clear applied. There are times however when the part is just too heavily rusted with pitting, and a wire wheel or filler is needed to smooth out the surface, obvious in the other big block bracket in the photo to the right of the red arrow. Probably way more info than you or the others wanted to know....but you know how I am!
Bottom line, this is a pretty cool product to use!

73-74 350 & 454 EGR Brackets... Three on the left original black oxide patina. Four on the right light coat of flat black with clear applied.
Closeup after EVapo Rust (Matte Clear added to the bracket on the right)
Bottom side of the bracket I posted above to show the natural black oxide plating still present.
Here's an example of one I left in too long and EVAPO Rust took it and the bolt down to bare metal.
