Default Help please with 1974 VIN

Hi all,

I’m looking at purchasing a 1974 coupe. I have the VIN, but I can’t seem to find a database that will tell me anything. Any assistance would be appreciated. Here’s some photos of the car I’m looking. Thanks!!
VIN. 1Z37J4S406624

VIN. 1Z37J4S406624
Here's a breakdown of the VIN:
VIN Range 1Z37J4S400001 – 1Z37J4S437502
1 (First Digit) Make/Manufacturer. 1 – Chevrolet
Z (Second Digit) Model series. Z – Corvette
37 (Third and Fourth Digits) 37- Corvette Coupe / 67 – Corvette Convertible
J (Fifth Digit) Engine type. J – Base Engine / T – L82 / Z – LS4
4 (Sixth Digit) Model Year. 4 – 1974
S (Seventh Digit) Vehicle Assembly Location. S – St. Louis, Missouri
4XXXXX (Eighth thru Thirteenth Digits) Plant Sequence Numbers.

The last six digits begin at 400001 and run thru 437502, accounting for 37,502 Corvette Coupes/Convertibles built in 1974. Each Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) is unique to an individual car.
Unless you have the build sheet or dealer invoice, you're out of luck on knowing what this specific car came with. You can get GM paperwork for cars a few years newer but that doesn't help you with a '74.

The photos show a fairly basic car with base engine and power brakes. No A/C, power windows, can't tell exactly but I don't think it has power steering, tilt/tele steering wheel. It obviously has some body mods and a few non-GM engine parts but on the whole looks stock and original.

The vin only tells you that it is a 74 coupe that was originally equipped with the base engine and was the 6,624th down the line.

I would guess that the engine has been replace with something. Looks like an aluminum intake, wrong distributor, wrong air filter assembly, wrong valve covers, etc. No telling what it is without more info.

I agree, the VIN number really isn't going to tell you much. Car is way to old for the standard used car checks.
Your best bet is a thorough inspection before buying.
