I just purchased and received a new Super Sport Transmissions (SST) TKX for installation into my 1974 resto-mod convertible. If you have installed the TKX in your C-3 I'd like to hear how it went for you and any feedback you might have about the installation.

I appreciate you taking the time to let me know how it went for you and looking forward to your comments.

Thank you in advance.

Are you replacing a four speed or an auto?

My '76 is an auto, I'm planning on going with an SST TKX kit.

They sent me the wrong TOO LONG clutch fork rod (was for a C2). That was a mess for a few days. Figured it out myself and purchased the correct C3 piece from a 3rd party.

The yoke was a bad leaker and had to be disassembled from the driveshaft and mailed back to SST for warranty repair. Seems they just tack welded the welch plug back on and JB Weld sealed it up.

The instructions are not for a TKX so I guess they never revised them. Mostly accurate.

Where did you purchase your TKX from?

How long ago did you purchase? The one I got this winter had correct instructions and the “new” style trans yoke for the rear. No problems with the install. Pretty straight forward but I have also done about a dozen of these. David you know my opinion of the SST package. Their customer service has always been very good. Replacing the 4 speed with the 5 speed with a removable X member will be a breeze

June 2021 shipped.

I can't say if I have the new style yoke or not. The splines were all the way through the yoke so it is open at both ends. The rear of the yoke has a plug pressed into it to seal the end. This design was unreliable as the pressed plugs were where it was leaking. It was a "known" problem.

Looks like JB Weld to me.

Nope that is the old style yoke. The new one is completely different. I did not take a picture of it so can't show it. The yoke now has a 4 bolt flange on the end that the driveshaft bolts to. I used your style yoke years ago and it leaked also. They replaced it and it was fine but those ones do have a tendency to leak.

Here is the best picture I have. I blew it up as best I could but you can see the yoke end is flat as is the driveshaft end. They bolt together but there is no JB weld area just a machined surface.

I saw a thread about that yoke. They had sheared the bolts off. I guess we can pick our poison.

I just went into my garage and took these three pictures of the driveshaft and yoke that came with my SST TKX. They look very much like the one you took Gordon.
Looking forward to the installation.
