‘68 gas fill issue
the gas station I go to has nozzles that pump fast if they are put in modern day fuel fills but no matter how I position the nozzle or hold the collar back the damned thing refuses to fill my ‘68’s tank faster than a trickle. I let the attendant who thought I didn’t know what I was doing try (against my better judgement) but he couldn’t do any better. I’m thinking of welding a modern fuel fill to an old cap to use when I fuel up.

I wonder if this is by design of that particular station's nozzles? I fill my wide neck '65 tank regularly by just holding the collar back and the nozzle pumps at full speed. Maybe before you modify anything, try fueling up at another station and see if the problem goes away. Then you'll now fer sure.
Cheers, Greg

ALWAYS have the nozzle tube touching the tank rim. Static electricity can ignite the gas by flowing through the hose. I was a three year Army fuel handler. Lou.

If I’m on the road I guess if I find a station that’s not gouging I’ll try them.
I realized one day just how mad I was about current events. The station I went to with my motorcycle had a different price for cash, .10 cents cheaper.
Fine I’ll pay cash . I round it up to .50 cent mark topping off the tank figuring it’s be easier for the guy t make change. Nope, he’s gives me change .50 cents short telling me he has no change. Then he says put another .50 cents in. I tell him I already topped it off, it’s a bike, how much does he think I can put in? He says “oh well”.
.
I lost it !Look my man at these prices you can’t chance ripping anyone for one thin dime so I suggest you find that .50 cents !
Ya, I guess his “oh well” was the straw that broke the camels back but he found that .50 cents and has been super polite to me since.

When and if prices ever drop to pre-Joe levels I won’t worry so much about .10 cents here .50 cents there. Until then I’ll be going to the cheap station slow pumps or not.

That would cause the nozzle to trickle into a large opening because it doesn't "know it's in the hole"

Not the user because I pumped gas at 2 different stations as a second job before my career at the Sheriffs Office started. I also let the guy at this station try and he couldn’t get it to work either.
Their vapor capture fillers are a pain, they don't dispense unless the hose is pushed all the way "in", right? I'm not sure how they'd operate with the large opening the early C-3s have.
A large circular plate, that you place over the gas filler, with a hole for the nozzle may be what's needed. Then you're pressing the hose against the plate.
positive side is its spotless and was obviously replaced. The down side is having been replaced the build sheet that was on top of it is long gone.

My cars have the huge fill neck too - makes it easy to see when they're full!
