Hi all , I own a 75 4 speed and she runs and shifts great , however I notice sometimes on certain angles of the road it will be hard to put in first gear. Is this quote normal or something I should address.. also is there any general maintenance I should be doing to maintain smooth shifting thanks
It might be helpful to safely jack up the car and take a few pictures of the shifter mechanism/parts. Once you post some pictures, I am sure the guys on the Forum will be able to offer some advice.
Like what kind of angles are you seeing this? (Are you downshifting into first?)
When it's up in the air, check the engine mounts too. If the engine is lifting it could cause misalignment of the clutch linkage so that it's not fully disengaging for a shift.

When I said the angle of the road I meant a little incline or decline… Downshifting is fine

I will try to get some pictures… Should I be greasing any fittings thanks
There are no fittings im aware of.
- check transmission fluid…if not changed in memory…change it..i like synthetic
- inspection and pictures of linkage..loose nuts etc..
- linkage alignment
- clutch adjustment verification
Isn't there a grease fitting on the clutch cross shaft (z-bar)? My '67 has one but have an auto in my '72, so don't know.
Alan71 and others talk about it here and methods to lube the fittings: https://www.corvetteforum.com...z-bar-restore-tips...
Grady, forgot to ask: Is the difficulty just in the effort required or is the difficulty on the verge of grinding gears?
Your shop manual has the procedure to adjust the clutch linkage. Perhaps some worn engine and/or transmission mounts are causing the engine to move relative to the clutch shaft.
Do you have a crossmember-mounted (stock) shifter? The movement could be seen there, too.
Get under the car (safely!) and take some pictures!
