My 69 427 car was an early build that has the 68 style idler pulley on it. It is an alternator only car. No power steering, A/C or smog pump. I have tried twice now to get the belt that goes just around the crank, water pump, and idler and both have been way too short. Anybody have the number for the correct belt?
I could, but since I would prefer to not make several 30+ mile trips back and forth, I was hoping someone that has one on their car, would be able to help me out with the length
The last three numbers of a drive belt part number is the length in inches. For example: XX345 would be 34.5 inches in length.

My research came up with a GM belt number 3940990 for your crank to idler pulley to water pump. When I did a cross reference, I came up with a Gates 7330. You stated no AC, smog pump, or power steering, so your belt diagram should look like this.
If your tensioning pulley is a smooth pulley with no groove for a belt and pushes on the belt, then the only way to get a correct belt on is to remove the fan and loosen the pulley enough to slip the belt over the crank pulley and then on the water pump pulley and then bolt everything back together. It is a time consuming pain, but I haven't found an easier way to replace it. The belt that I ended up using is 31.86" long and has a GM number 3952336, Zip FB-298 and Paragon 2481.
If the pulley has a groove for a belt then this info won't work, but I have never seen a grooved pulley.

Thanks for the info, but mine is the early style with the grooved pulley
