Because the block was left exposed (hood on but unprotected) the lifter bores have a thin film of rust in the bores. Is there a lifter bore hone tool anyone can recommend? There are these berry hones that might work but thought I'd check this forum for guidance. what is the Inside diameter, the tools look like they come in different sizes. Thanks for the help.
Is this a short block with crank, camshaft, etc installed? If so, how are you going to flush the abrasive debris from honing? If just a flash rust sort of situation where oiled lifters fit and move freely, then use as is after wiping out each bore.
Crank is in, cam is out. I was thinking; after the honing I would flush and drain the pan....I think its a flash rust situation but before installing a new cam and lifters I feel the need to clean up the lifter bores.
Thanks, that might do the trick....I pulled the cam yesterday. it looks fine but rust as hell. I'm thinking don't risk it and just replace it with a new one. I used a dremel and little wire wheel but not sure it's clean enough to put back in. Thoughts??
You are getting paranoid again.
You don't need to buy a new cam because of a little surface rust.
Put the end of the cam in a bucket of hot soapy water. Scrub everything with a SOS pad. Flip cam end for end do the other half.
Dry with towel then lather it up with break-in lube or engine assembly moly paste with a latex glove.
It will be fine.
I over think everything. Thanks for grounding me. Funny I watch Roadkill on tv all the time and think theses guys do stuff that makes my head spin and their cars run amazing.

You can get a gallon of rust remover like evapo-rust and make a closed tube out of pvc and drop the cam in ther and let it soak. You may be able to stick a plug in the bottom of the lifter bores and soak them as well
