After purchasing my 1969 several years ago, and going through the car for brakes, suspension etc, I put about 11,000 miles on this original numbers matching 427 / 4 speed car. I really didn't want to keep putting a ton of mileage on it... but if the weather is nice I just don't want to drive anything else but a C3. To backyard BBQ's dinner with my wife, wineries etc. And OF COURSE the track and AutoCross days. The solution... "5b" a mini-me clone. With the advantage of the bubble back window with more cargo space for jackets, the wife's pocketbook etc. Same Steering wheel. Same Shifter **** as well. Wanted it to be as close as possible to driving experience (besides BB vs SB). Life is good indeed!

VERY NIce 69!!!!!
but I dont quite understand why you want to save the car for the next owner to drive instead of enjoying it yourself. Is it just an investment to be sold later? It really looks like she would be a helluva fun drive! My 68 was mostly original until I got her. She had the original interior, the suspension was upgraded to a touring package and the block was saved while a LT1 350 was in there for the original blocks preservation. I have a big block in her now while I build up a 69 427 for her. Once i started driving her I cant stop, its just too much fun not to drive her. I wish you would drive the 69 more

Hey Rescue Rogers! Thanks for the nice reply. So about the mileage thing. I'm not saving the 1969 for the next owner, it is def my forever car. In fact I have already starting thinking about a museum I may donate it to once my time comes (I am only 59 though lol! so not for a WHILE!). My kids God bless them really don't have the ability to keep the car (both are city dwellers with no garages). If that changes and they want it, it will be theirs before I take my very last breath.
It's more about how priceless the car is to me. The car was Flared pretty much from new in 1969 and raced SCCA on the west coast before being bought and taken to the east coast in the early 1980's. I am the Third owner. It is truly priceless to me. I would never drive it in rain. The bottom of the car is detailed and as clean as the top side. I went through every inch of that car in the past 3 years. I feel every time you take a car out things can happen (accidents, more stone chips etc). So I DO still drive it. Probably once every week, maybe for 20-30 miles or so. Mostly to Car shows now, or a winery if I know the parking lot is a good one without gravel or dirt. It always wins a trophy at car shows. So yes I am neurotic about the car I admit it lol! I tell my friends this and I quote: "See that car over there? 100 years from now... that car will look exactly like that". And I truly believe that. I'm not it's owner... I'm its curator and guardian lol!
The 1978 I am much more relaxed about and drive it all the time (although not in the rain). We just did a nice 150 mile drive in it this past Saturday.

That is very cool. I understand whats going on now. Enjoy your twins and i hope she is still the same in 100 years. I try not to drive in the rain, atleast not intentionally but I have gotten caught by pop up showers in the past. Its cool you have 2. Maybe you should throw a big block in the 78 so you dont miss that growl.
I feel the same about my car but i dont really have anyone to give her to. My nephew and neices havent shown any interest so i may sell her when im on my death bed to pay for the hospital bill and funeral. Maybe they will eant her as the get older
She was born on the first week of Oct just like me so i feel a special connection to her. I hope your girl stays as beautiful in 100 years as She is today!!!

That is cool that you share the Born On date week with your car!!
I would drive them both....alot. Forget about the value or whatever......they are meant to be driven and enjoyed. Don't miss the opportunity.
Truth is for better or worse. I just have to be VERY careful with the 1969. For other people as well as for my sanity. I have a large decal above the car in the garage that says:
"Was John Wick a Fairy Tale? Touch this car and find out" I've gotten a little better in recent years but my wife and kids worry about what would happen to someone who hit the car. Kids,Elderly and Women naturally would be exempt as Soldiers deserve Soldiers. If it is a guy, and it wasn't my fault in the accident... my hand to God ... there would be an assault charge to the Collision claim steps. It's just what it is. Always been that way. So I gotta limit the possibilities by being smart and taking where it can be watched and with plenty of room.
The 1978 is just not as priceless to me. The 1969 is absolutely priceless to me. It is what it is.
