Default low beam headlight 1978

Hello, looking for some assistance here. One of my low beam headlights on my '78 went out. I went to AutoZone and Napa for a replacement. They both carried the light, however the three prongs on the end were too long to fit into the housing. Are these special order lights or do I need to change the electrical housing for the new light to fit? Thank you.

Most of the time the plastic plug does not cover the prongs all the way.

If I understand your question, your concern is that the plastic connector does not slid on the prong closer to the lamp...
Other than lifespan, I have no other problems with the imports of today fitting.
I will agree, the prongs of both the single element lamp and the duel element lamps are longer than in the past.
If this is a concern to you, you could always remove the lamp, bend or file off the stop tangs of the prong.
Cut prong to desired length.
Your 78 has no fiber optics cables that would require the connector housing to be any closer to transfer the light beam to center consul indicator...
And to clarify, these are NOT Low Beam lamps, they are Duel element lamps producing both Low and High beams.
I have been using Philips H5001 and H5006 lamps for years.
This is a import Philips H5006
You can see where the connector stops there is a little tab on each prong that are bent in stopping connector housing...
