Default Push Rod Length

Hi, all. I need to buy some push rods for the 350 in my 79. I will be installing an Eddy 2101 manifold I found on FB Marketplace (50 bucks) and need to order the push rods. What length do I need? 7.750? I will be using the stock rockers and springs. Thanks.

Why do you need to change pushrods?

Stock / std length is 7.796 but most people call it 7.8 for SBC.
Thats for stock cast iron heads, flat tappet cam.
Aluminum heads usually call for longer rods.

Any guide plates involved here?

And don't cheap-out on these pushrods. I have seen $19.95 specials cause $1,995 in damage.

Changing Intake manifold does not change pushrod length. Roll the pushrods on a piece of glass or the granite countertop (when wifey isn’t looking). If straight, dunk them inn a can of gas or thinner and hold them up and see if you can see through the centers. Blow them out either with compressed air or the 20 dollar ***** version and reinstall them. Put them in the same way up they were. You will see polished part where they rode on the guides.

Did you change rocker ratio, Roller rockers, the heads or to a roller lifter cam....You should only need rockers for any one of those changes. If any of them are bent or the ends are worn or show signs of stress cracks then you should change them. You can get a pushrod length checker but you have to pull the springs and use a soft spring to check the distance.

All you’re going to need is a intake gasket set. I’d recommend checking the thermostat and a coolant flush while you’re in there. Are you changing carb too, or reusing your Qjet?

Not replacing. buying to replace. The PO cannibalized the engine, tore it down and trached the parts, so....I'm building from the heads up and front. It's a stock block, I need to find an intake manifold, carb, water pump, pullies, radiator, shroud. I ordered the cam and lifters and now trying to piece this thing back together. I've built a few ford 390's and one 350 back in the day.

Ptorto,

Basically, there are three grades of pushrods.
There are the cheapies with ball ends. Can be had for a song. Bend easily. Sometimes the ball end comes off. Lots of damage.
Then there are the "one piece" rods. Have no pieces to break off. Little more money. Thicker walls (0.080) for strength
Then there are premium rods. Chrome Moly, harden to rub on guide plates, custom lengths available, often $100+ set.
Choose wisely.

Make sure the water pump you choose is Corvette specific. Not just "short" pump.
Edelbrock 2101 fits sq bore / spread-bore carbs, same carb pad HT as stock. Reasonable pricing for used ones on EBay.
