Back in the early 80's I worked in the Bronx. One day, a silver vette with Virginia plates parked on the next corner ( Colgate Ave ).
I had to pass it every day on the way to lunch. It sat in the same place for about 3 weeks. I didn't think much about it except what a nice car it
was because parking is a pain and people left their cars in one pace for a while.
One day, on my way to lunch with a client, as we passed it, a car pulled up and 4 guys got out of it.
They turned the Vette on it's side and shoved a garbage can under it to hold it up.
After about a half hour, on our way back, the engine and trans were in the trunk of the other car and the guys were leaving.
I tell this now, many years after, because it hit me yesterday to do this.
I'm sorry it took so long, and sorry for the person that lost his beautiful vette.

I just can't envision the rationale for this...why on it's side?? And, why the hell didn't you call the cops immediately? Why the unloading of your guilt here...now!! Did you just leave confessional?
Well maybe now that you told that story you'll be more proactive in the future.
I'm sure your family, friends, and neighbors would appreciate you more if you do.
Today it is mostly Hondas and Acuras I see up on blocks with the wheels missing- aluminum floor jacks and battery powered impacts make it a quick pit stop for thieves. Catalytic converter theft is also way up.
It was the Bronx in the 80's, nothing unusual about 10 year old used Chevy getting stripped on the street. Come to think of it nothing unusual about that today either.
As I thought about it last night, that' one of the reasons.
A - there was no cell phones then, so I would have had to find a phone to call.
B - My shop was on the Bronx River. About once a month the cops had divers looking for a body behind it and I didn't want to be one of them.
If you stared too long at certain people, you'd be swimming with the fishes.
C - That wasn't the only car with Virginia plates near there.
Bluthundr:
Not sure I said they pulled it out through the bottom, but, I think that would have been the fastest way to get to the motor mounts. And maybe whatever else was holding it. If I said that, I mis-spoke.
