Default ? for the experts!!!

TIA to all the C3 supporters
Under the hood checking, looking cleaning but I am wondering why the are two interlaced springs on the throttle cable to the carb?

I always believe it was just a redundancy thing, the main (small) one breaks then the other one is there to prevent WOT.

Ok tx for the note
I know that the foot pressure to press the pedal seems to be very stiff...
Would it be ok to just use the inner spring and keep the outer one in the glove box jic?

I'd check for other issues first (bent cable etc) The outer spring usually doesn't add anywhere near as much pressure to the pedal.

Meaning I can't help you with your arthritis and it's sad that you have that. I can't imaging how much it affects day to day tasks

Maybe find another dual spring set up that is lighter?
I like the idea of 2 springs 👍
maybe along with safety, it helps with keeping tension smooth or even and not wear out throttle shaft as well.

The dual spring setup is as previously mentioned a redundancy system so if one spring broke the throttle will still close, having the second one stashed in the glove box won’t help if you are powering along the road trying to lift the gas pedal with your foot because the spring broke. You could add a third spring that counteracts the others (pulling in the opposite directly) to lighten the effort needed to press on the gas pedal. This spring would obviously have to be lighter than the other of course JMPO.

I have heard that two different size springs have different resonant frequencies. Meaning that if a spring starts vibrating at it's resonant frequency it will loose its "springiness" and not be able to return from its extended position. So if two different size springs are used, one will always be able to return the throttle. The same principle applies to valve springs.

Safety reasons. Drag strips won't let you race without dual throttle cable return springs. (Won't pass tech)

post a pic, they arent very stiff springs if they are made as a set. They should be significantly different looking, the outer spring section short and fat and the inner thinner and longer. Obviously the overall length is the same

Almost 90% of the complaints of too stiff of a gas pedal are NOT the fault of dual springs directly.
But rather the location of the dual springs indirectly.
In layman's terms, try to move not the carb end of the springs but rather the other end of the springs to a location with less tension.
Sometimes it's just a bubba set-up gone wrong and adding wear & tear on the throttle shaft bushings.

These are factory springs in the correct place, for a '76 anyway. Chrome added...
