Here are pics of both hinge sides from what I believe to be the original hood of the car. Passenger side hinge area broke away cleanly and was repaired with a marine type quality bonding compound after providing a grooved area around the edges. There was no steel reinforcement in the broken piece. Question is; leave as is or do over using mat and inserting a piece of steel reinforcement? Thanks in advance.
Rookie sugg......use a thick metal insert that is pre-drilled and threaded.
Recess the insert to allow for coverage with mat (for cosmetic purposes).
Screw wooden dowel plugs into the threaded holes to keep epoxy adhesive and mat from clogging them
Drill/thread extra holes in the insert to allow epoxy (metal-to-fiberglass) adhesive enter the extra holes when the insert is pressed into place for extra holding power.
Sand the cured area until it is FLAT to prevent stress and future failure.
Would you say a piece approximately 1 1/2” w x 6” long and 1/4” thick would work? Also were the reinforcements for the hinges from the factory on both sides riveted in? Thanks Doorgunner.
