Not that difficult to do but it's one of those jobs that takes 3 hands and a little experience to see when things aren't 'quite' installed correctly (which can affect longevity). If you don't get it 'quite' right a guy will be taking it apart again ...lol. So maybe not a bad idea to have someone do it if you don't want to screw with it.
KapsSA is the guru. He helped me get the right part for my early 79 with CB .. basically the plastic cable had snapped in the middle.

and I can't recall which one I used. I had to order the second (based on KapsSA's advice) because I ordered the wrong one. I Had the cut the cable to the required length (i think its a Cadillac part but does the job)
