Curious I know their is different materials or even thin wood, but the side pieces of the console are very flimsy so, I’m assuming a lot of people use wood or some other type material and painting.I have a friend that I know could cut them from wood, thanks
I think mine on my 78 are made from masonite. The problem would be anything thicker wuld be harder to install and stick out from the console. I don't think you want them too stiff since they curve some front to back.
Let us know wwhat you do.

I've seen the backing made of thin diamond plate, plexiglass, 1/4" plywood, cardboard and aluminum sheet.
Not sure if I have a pic or not, but I made a set from 1/4" plywood and glued my carpet set back on the front. drove it like that for years, zero issues.
the originals warped on the car before I got it, moulded in long term storage, so I peeled the carpet and used the carpet as a template and cut the wood, mounted it all up, test fit it, then regaled the old carpet on, not 100% perfect, but neither was the car.
