I have this one small oil leak. I get this one drop on the flange above the z-bar. It happens whether I drive the car or store it. In storage I clean it off and its back a week later. In the past I have changed the manifold gaskets, sealed the corners, new rocker cover gaskets and recently replaced the distributor. the entire rest of the engine is bone dry, especially the backs and sides of the heads, the distributor area and the entire back of the engine. Is this possibly coming from between the head and the block? Any one else experiencing this?
There is dye in there now. The only area that lights up is the flange. That's why I was wondering if its possible to be leaking from head gasket just above it, oil only. BTW did compression test as well, all cylinders in the 170s. This spring changed all the hoses and antifreeze was pretty green color. Recent oil change normal as well.
i doubt head gasket. i dont think there is even any oil passages in the head gasket.
i would be looking at the oil fittings there above the oil filter, valve cover, back of manifold. small leak on the china wall can run right now the block/head to that corner
the location posted is above oil level obviously, so it has to be coming from somewhere when the car is running
The baffling part is it leaks while in storage, i can wipe that off every week for the whole winter, and the one drop reappears, and the leak is not any worse if it drive it a whole weekend. Yes big block and no dye anywhere on back of block. I replaced the fittings for the oil cooler option (not even sure if those are drilled through in my block and the fitting for the oil pressure line. You can see the oil pressure line coiled in the picture and it is also dry. No actual oil passages in gasket, believe that part of head just overhangs valley. Running around edge? just stumped. bought the car 3 years ago, have repaired every single leak except this.
The most difficult 2 on the engine!! I recently did a compression test, and actually discovered that my problem was some of the plugs were loose. had leak before and still have it, but will check again

Check your valve covers....they always seem to leak and maye there is enough residual from driving it that they still seem to weep or that its just up in the grooves and slowly draining down.....not running all your oil is in the pan so its just left over from the last drive....if ou have a cork gasket it could be draining out of the cork
