I always wanted a blower, 671.. my fear was, will I beable to tune the carb or carbs correctly, set the timing correctly. And because I just thought it's a bit more than I think I am capable of doing correctly.. and when I was going to give it a shot, I thought of a friend back in the 80's that had a c3 with a 671, he got pulled over so much he sold the car, alot of times it was due to obstruction of view.. and that is what made my final decision.. has anyone gone through this?

Ive wanted a blower and was told what you have said...you cant see the right side of the nose.
Some may say big deal but i had a larger rear view mirror because it had a backup camera screen built in. It partially blocked the right hand nose of the car because i sit higher in the seat.
I was pulling into larger parking lot with just a 2 row, 4 pump fuel station. i slowly pulled in because i was looking for the old 70's light pole base that was marked with yellow 3 foot tall poles that i knew was there somewhere. It came into view as it passed less than 2 feet away from my nose......one of those brown pants experiences. I ripped the stupid mirror out when i pulled into the pump

Take a close look at the Weiand 142 S/C. Will fit under the hood, and no "Obstructed View" BS. Weiand also makes one for the big block (177) if you have that......
Those old blowers are inefficient anyways. I had a 144B&M blower back in 1998 on a 355. They make quite a bit of heat and really don't hold up to today's standard for forced induction.
These days you either go turbo or modern blower. Something fits nice under the hood. More quality and cooler air, more power available. Hopefully less belt issues. Either centrifugal or one of those Eaton style, positive displacement deals, compact, lightweight, powerful.

The 671/871 s/c's are AWESOME if you are only going 1/4 mile at a time between teardowns. The Weiand 142/177 units are pretty good for daily driving......
I actually put an Eaton M90 on a Y2K Ford F-150 with a 4.2L V6 a few yeas ago. It ate modded 5.0 Mustangs for lunch and had room for desert....

Performance isnt the issue, 671s are all about the looks. Same as tripowers. Not peak performance anymore but more cool than a snail bolted to your exhaust or an extra A/C pump hanging off your fan belt.....its always about looks over performance unless your talking 1/4 mile times Which is not this subject
I'm thinking along the same lines. The OP is much more interested in the look. Not really so much maximum performance.
Still, this would boost performance over stock. And likely into the neighborhood of breaking lots of stuff.
The ability to see over the hood is clearly an issue. The cops harassing you for this violation is clearly an issue.
Cutting a hole in the hood is yet still another issue. (never once have I thought anyway of doing it looked good).
And then there's the "will the trans take it", "will the diff take it" "will the the stub axles take it" ??? Etc. etc.
Yup, talked me right out of it.
Performance aside, blowers sticking out of the hood just look cool. I’ve never driven with one so I can’t opine as to impaired views, but they look awesome.
My BB 69 circa 1981. Tremendous power when it was running right with a 6% overdrive. This was a Dyer blower set up, the supplied carbs, Carters, never did allow it to run right. I switched to Holley's, it ran much better but my 21 year old self was operating above my pay grade in the carb tuning arena. Sold my 69 Z28 to pay for this engine. The hood was the only thing permanently changed and as you can see I used a small block hood. The blower really didn't effect safety in my opinion but there was a blind spot for sure
May I perhaps offer a compromise? It's cheaper than a blower set up, you don't have to worry as much with tuning and air fuel ratios and it's still badass 70s street machine goodness....the tunnel ram! I have one on my 68! Also it's exempt from the dot standard automobile equipment requirements of 1985... It's been to court...it was thrown out. Basically the state of Wisconsin (where it happened) said hey it's a 68 Corvette, people had and did stuff like that to their cars back then, wasn't illegal then and it's not illegal to recreate it now....so think about a tunnel ram possible.

Let’s be honest here - how many of us growing up (and perhaps, like me, at 58 years old) wouldn’t think this car is about the coolest thing we ever saw?
Blowers are. hela cool, always . I debated going with a blower, but was scared of the drivability and the rear end holding up. I ended up going tunnel ram and to be honest it drives great.
