Default Headers Question

I got a 76 Vette with a new engine in it as of 1996, (10243880). New Crate Engine. It was parked 2k miles after the new engine was put in. Anyways. The engine is well preserved and looks new. It needs new exhaust because it’s all rusted out. I was thinking I’d put long tube headers in when I get to it. I’m wondering if headers made to fit in the 1976 Vette with the stock L-82 will fit on this newer engine in the car. I’m sure they would but I wanna be 100%. I can’t find anything online that they wouldn’t. Thanks.

Yes, 100 percent. That's a small block gen 1 Chevy engine.

One thing to consider with headers is ground clearance. My collectors and the connecting flanges hang pretty darn low and I haven’t found a way to increase the ground clearance there.

You won't have any ground clearance issues with Doug's D350 headers, the flanges are even with the stock oil pan.

No problem with Hooker Super Comps. They are not as low as the stock oil pan. These pics show mine with the Milodon pan with a depth of 7¼". The stock pan is 7½" deep.

Remember long tube headers are Corvette specific

Milodon 5 Qt pan. DynoTech ceramic coated headers with dumps.
I believe mine are Dynotechs from Summit? The collectors have a slight downward angle, but they are not the problem.
The cut-outs hate speedbumps.

I’m getting near the point where I’m going to install these headers. All I need at this point are header bolts. I’m too lazy to pull a bolt and figure out the right size I need, so I’m asking you guys if these will work? I found them at my local O’Reilly.

HEADER BOLTS 3/8 - 16 x 3/4"

Same here. I pulled the original motor out of my '69 that had Hooker Comp long tube headers on it. I had no issues with ground clearance. I'd like to re-use them along with a spare 3970010 engine block on another C3 as they have a great sound, but that means I'd have to buy another C3 - And who buys a Corvette just to re-use an extra engine block and cool exhaust headers they have laying around?

There's that awful word. It starts with a "C" and ends with an "a".

They look ok, just not my thing. I would never want to snap a bolt off in the head because I cheaped-out to save a few bucks.
Those are Grade 5.

Look around on Summit Racing. If you specify SBC "Header Bolts" in your search they will be the correct size, TPI and length.
Myself, I like ARPs for their superior strength (not snapping)
And will have the small head to clear header tubes and will come with built in washer.

Why bolts, and not studs? I used 3/8" ARP studs, and that worked okay. Next time, 3/8 into the heads, 5/16 exposed studs.

I’m open to either. I thought bolts would make for a cleaner look, but studs would probably be easier to install the headers. But they’re $80 more.

Nice kit, but still not ARPs.
At Summit:
ARP Chromoly black, 12 point, 3/4" L.
P/N 100-1201
$15.99

Run those numbers on EBay Motors and you might get shpg free or just a little more $.
Summit, Jegs sells on EBay.

If you are not into black chromoly, Summit also has Stainless.
And be rest assured, ARPs are not a fastener that will snap off and cause miserable grief.

You painted them black?
let us all know how they look in a years time.
Myself I tried everything, and everything burnt off.
Perhaps you know of a paint that doesn't burn off.
