Default Temp Level

On my 81, I'm replacing my heater / ac switch/lever.

The bottom slider (Cold / Hot) is a bit odd. By default, it slides to the far left (cold) but I can only slide it about halfway to the right (Hot).

In the below image that is as far as it will go to the right.

The temp does get pretty warm, some might call it hot.

I
thought it might be the cable but the cable is fine so I followed it up to the heater unit and the lever that the cable attaches will only go that far. Is this typical? Is there something in the heater core that will prevent this?

Being in So Cal, should I just not bother since it never really gets that cold?

Thanks

The cable is adjustable. Perhaps it needs to be adjusted.
remove cable from the lever on the switch. Does the lever now slide all the way to hot?
Remove the cable from the door. Does the door open and close properly with cable removed?
Adjust cable so when you slide it to cold the vacuum switch on the top of the heater box gets depressed just before the lever on the switch hits full cold.

Maybe the little spring loaded valve on the heater box end has been replaced with a new one ,one with the wrong spring in it ?

When I disconnect the cable from the lever on the box the door swings open and close freely. I'll adjust it and see if that works.

If your cable touches the side on cold you need to adjust it as above about 1/4 nch away from hitting bezel.
