I just did the Borgeson steering install a week or so ago. Tonight the steering felt loose. When I got home I looked and the rag joint is already torn with one of the bolts hanging out. I used the stock upper part of the rag joint as I preferred the way the splines locked in. Maybe that was a bad choice ...
Any idea what could cause this? Where can I buy just the rubber part?
You mean the stock type? It looks like you used the stock upper too, no problems?
Stock parts, ten years on, no problems. BTW, the bolt you see on the steering column shaft engages a flat on the shaft and locks everything in place. There is a lot of redundancy in the stock design, important for safety.
The borgeson should have came with another rag joint. Why did you not use that one? I guess you could put that rubber one in. I think the set screw will keep it aligned. You can always put red loctite on it. My son's original rag joint was torn...

That's why I used the stock upper piece, didn't like the set screw design of the supplied one.

I did, except I swapped out the upper flange for the stock one because it seemed more secure.
OEM rags are better than using set screws and if you do you spot the shaft
No one has the same material that Saginaw or my old friend Tom Reina had. They are not rigid enough
