I'm planning to send the TH400 in my '72 out to be rebuilt over the winter but remembered that the original motor was not in the car when I bought it. Based upon the transmission's tag, it appears that the original TH400 was replaced with another TH400 from an '81 at some point in its past.
Deciphering the tag, I get the following:
FQ = original motor it was mated to?
227 = 227th day of 1981 (Aug 15)?
3790 = transmission number
I haven't found much luck other than one website ( www.teufert.net/trans/t-400.htm ) that identifies the FQ on the tag above as a 350 used in a 1981 20 series Chevy/ GMC truck. Would the gearing in a truck model be any different than that originally used for our cars? Anyone have another source about the FQ?
I also looked at the driver's side of the case near the pan and the bellhousing area but couldn't locate any VIN #s to try figure out/verify what vehicle it was originally installed in but could not locate a VIN/partial VIN in either location.
