I am thinking the spacer goes in between the back of the alternator and the exhaust manifold on the lower bolt. I will try it there and see how the belts line up.

As I remember there is no spacer used for the base 350 or LT-1 Corvette alternator mount brackets. As the lower support bracket attached to the exhaust manifold and water pump threaded stud there are washers and lock washers. The upper bracket attaches to the same water pump threaded stud.
I agree, I don't see any call for a spacer on the 71 and earlier style bracket anywhere on the AIM and on the few images I've looked at it seems the alternator goes up against that lower bracket so if there was a need, it would seem to be behind the alternator I guess

My memory is foggy on this, but I believe that there is a spacer inserted into the bracket for the bottom mount on a '72. Although it's not called out separately on the AIM, I think it's visible in the illustration. The sleeve fits in the bore and can be removed. Again, foggy memory...
71 green 454, thanks for the picture. If you could zoom in on the bottom of the last picture it will tell me what I need to know. just from my zooming, looks like the alternator is mounted directly to the exhaust manifold.
I believe this is correct. Just went thru this on my ‘71. The left exhaust manifold has an ear that the bolt goes thru like the picture. ‘72 exhaust does not have that ear and uses that cast bracket. Paragone’s catalog has the pictures and parts you need. PO put a ‘72 left exhaust manifold on my ‘71. Then bubba’d some junk to hold alternator, not very secure. I bought a used left exhaust manifold and then got bracket and bolts from Paragon. Easy-Peasy…..
Yes both Bolts under the alternator mounts into the exhaust manifold
71 Green 454, Thanks for the picture. Can I bother you for one more? can you send a close up of the two brackets where they go into the water pump. i just want to make sure I didn't for get to put a spacer between the two brackets. That is the bad part about just bagging parts and labeling alternator brackets.
I have a big block, those photos I posted are just ones I saved in my Corvette photos file.
Here's one more, it looks to me like the bracket that adjusts the alternator belt goes on the outside and it mounts to the wp along with the other bracket without a spacer.
See if this helps, it's one of Alan 71's old photobucket picture.
