Hi everyone
I already asked this question a couple of weeks ago, but didn't get a lot of replies.
I want to install new poly bushings on my A-arms, but I think there is a problem.
The lower A-arms don't seem to be the same on one side. The gap (see pictures) is narrower than the gap on the other arm.
Is this normal? Will this be a problem for the alignment?
Will this 'problem' solve itself when installing the bushings?
(I will use a hydraulic press.)
If this is a problem? How can I solve it? A brass hammer and punch maybe?
The steel sleeve should protrude more through the narrow one. And maybe it'll be O.K. on a mild street driven car.
Maybe.
Me.
I would be looking for a replacement A-arm as maybe just wouldn't fly with me.
I had the same issue. You may want to consider that the car was in an accident that bent the arm.
I had that issue and sent the arms to Dick Guldstrand to be "fixed” and had them install they solid bushings. Unfortunately they are not around anymore.
Two solutions for you to consider:
1) Send them out to a reliable machine shop to help.
2) Buy a new arm. I have used Gee’s Auto Sales for my Corvette parts needs and they seem to have everything.
Just an FYI: You mentioned poly bushings. The harder the material, the harder it will be to get the bushing in if the arm isn’t in good shape. I could have gotten rubber in, but the solid bushings were impossible.

do you think they were bent from removal? or accident? if from removal i am bending that inside only to line up hole (looks like outside ok?) and assembling.
cannot help on poly.. i used rubber..
if from accident maybe consider replacing..
Arms usually bend/collapse like that when installing the bushings and not having something to take up the empty space between the arm when pushing the new bushings in.
I'd throw it in a vice, get a big pry bar and open the gap back up to match the other arm. Be careful when installing the bushings and it should be fine.
