Hello, all. My dimmer switch on my 82 failed, it would stay on low beam, and when trying to switch into high beam, the headlights would just turn off. So i replaced the dimmer switch with a new one, and it worked for a week. But then that one failed with the same symptoms as the old one. Anyone know what exactly might be going on here? Thanks
PS: I keep high beams on normally when im driving.
The headlight switch has a circuit breaker and it sounds like you are tripping it. Do you have the original sealed beams? Have you checked for corrosion at the headlight plugs?

Yea I have the originals, I swapped them with some other ones. Where is the circuit breaker exactly? No corrosion at the plugs
they have a led ring on the outside that I tapped into the high beam circuit. They also take a H4 Bulb on the inside. Might be the culprit, although I don’t remember if I installed these before or after the first switch failure. I just figured LED doesn’t draw a lot so I can add it to the high beam side.
I can try this: wire the leds to the turn signals, maybe replace the h4 halogen with a led bulb. Do I have to replace the switch too?

H4s all by themselves draw more wattage than the original sealed beams. You need the headlight switch to turn on a relay to feed those lights.
Ty. I’ll look into it. Anyone have any relay kits they recommend? If I go the relay route I wanna do it with as little molestation of the original wiring as possible.
Check out , Mad Electrical. There Web site is very informative and you won't need to moleste your harness much at all. You will be doing your factory wiring and switches a big favour.
