Default another Vent question

I am removing the AC and going to Non AC. I've had several questions answered on the forum, thanks to all who answered.
One more question, to make the conversion do I removed the door and actuator shown in diagram?

Also, the round fresh air vents under dash are closed off, can I just open them up and connect the non AC duct work that goes to the round ball vents?
Thanks

I got a follow up question on this vent system. To refresh everyone, I'm converting a 72 convertible from A/C to a non A/C car. Doing this at the customers request,
The two round holes up under the dash that are sealed off on an A/C car, I know they hook up to the round ball vents on each side of dash, Has anyone opened these up and if so, what did you do or use the prevent rainwater from entering inside car? I was thinking of some sort of PVC fitting that I could cut down to fit.
They measure 3 inches so a plumbig fitting might work, Any creatives ideas would be much appreciated.
