Hey OP, glad you're bring this one back to life! This thread may be of some help to fit some dust shields. I know your cut out has been modified, but this may be of some value. Best, Paul https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...on-a-68-a.html
@Hopper12 Paul, that’s awesome! Thanks for that help! I’m wondering, is this a NOS I should look for? If you were in my shoes (less resto, more mod), would you do the same thing or fab a new design?

Hi, thank you. It looks like your cutouts might be (much?) larger than stock. If that's the case, stock shields may not fit. Since you're building a modified anyway, my suggestion would be to go with something that will fit, or can be modified/cut to fit. Maybe from a 3/4 or 1 ton truck of similar vintage that might use the same type material? Hope this helps! Best, Paul
PS: a few years later they started attaching the shields with scrivets, or push in rivets. Easier than staples if you really don't care.
Firewall doesn't have the openings for the wiper door actuator and switches and don't look like they have been covered, just not there makes me believe the firewall was replaced with a later model. The inner fenders look like something someone made not stock, including the brace rod there to the frame

I agree. The inner fender wheel wells look home made. Look at the vertical steel tubes from the frame to the top of the inside of the outer front quarter panels.
why get chevy truck shields. the rest of the inner fenders came from home depot. a couple square feet of closed cell vinyl foam sheet or maybe even roofing felt...

Yankee ingenuity! TBH My mind was going in the same direction. I’m not limited by the same constraints as the late 60’s GM engineers so why not choose the best material for the job. I suppose that’s obvious, but considering I’m starting with “heavily customized”, I suppose the best course is to stay the course!
Thanks for the suggestions; I especially like the felt idea. The point is to protect the bay from road debris, yes?
roofing felt was a joke. just the right color. falls apart without shingles on top. and don't use shingles either. any black neoprene foam sheet. 6 inch by 2 feet would make the pair.
I would just run with how it is, there's so much modified here that it's better to leave as is. I saw Steve's ad too and thought it would be cool to have something unique. Just get it road worthy and enjoy.

Exactly! There will be plenty to spend money on once the critical safety items are checked and/or fixed. The splash shields only help keep the engine clean. I do not run them in my 80. They do not (AFAIK) help keep the car cool, as that air will have already passed through the (properly sealed) radiator.
