Default Installing Hooker long tube headers….😃

Bought some Hooker headers for my 71 350 coupe… I have factory air, PS and PBs . I’m a little worried about the alternator mounts. The bottom mount, that is actually a pívot point to tighten and loosen the belts connects to the exhaust manifold. I don’t believe the headers have that mount. How do you guys mount the alternator with headers?

Use the 1972 Corvette alt bracket......or the 2 piece aftermarket one that Summit sells....bolts to the front two header tube bolts......I like the factory looking one though.....

Just Google up 1972 Corvette Alternator Bracket......I found that pic on E-Bay.....click images and there are many choices.....

UNIVERSAL GMC CHEVY V8 SMALL BLOCK ALTERNATOR HEADER BRACKET | eBay

Above is the truck one......the Vette one has a different upper bar......but either will work.....

Does not matter that it is a 71'....no.......

Mine is like this, too. The end of the adjustment arm bolts to the water pump instead of the head.

Can you show me a pic of yours…? I’m thinking the upper stock support that’s on there now, and probably the original one, can be used. I just need the lower support…

It has been 45 years or more since I had Hooker Headers and side exhaust on both a 1971 and a 1973. I don’t recall if it was the factory alternator or a/c compressor bracket that I had to rework it on my bench grinder to get it to fit over the header tubes. By doing this I don’t recall having to purchase any additional parts.

Jebby,
Doesn’t he need an alternator bracket specific for a short water pump, or is that only a big block issue?
Here is a picture of the one I purchased from Summit.
It is available in polished aluminum as well.
This one is for my big block, but you get the idea.
Great quality!

This is the bracket I spoke of above.......I actually have one here at the shop going on a 56' Chevrolet with a Vintage 350 going in it......almost too cheap at $11.
I believe you can use the original bracket/pivot that bolted to your manifold with it.

Yes.....use either the truck arm or the long one to the pump.......Corvette Central has the slick original water pump bolt/stud that spaces the arm out just right.....devil's in the details.....

The pic I posted above is for a short water pump.......truck and Corvette were very similar......in fact we used my Vette to see what we needed for a friends 71' Chevy truck he was restoring.....we wanted to put the factory A/C on it and it had the long water pump setup on it from the late 70's early 80's.......which puts the compressor on the wrong side......so I told him to convert it to short water pump and snapped a pic of my Vette to give him an idea of what he needed....the only thing different was the upper arm as explained.....pump, pulleys, brackets were all the same.....and we used the Hooker Summit knock off bracket because he had headers......

Sorry, not the best pics, but I was able to use the stock upper support arm on mine. Otherwise it looks exactly like the example pictured. This will work...https://www.corvettecentral.com/c3-6...st-iron-303116

Mine.....
