Default C3 Rally Wheels

Question: I have a set of Original C3 Rally wheels. They are the real deal 15 x 8, with the AZ stamp. 2 of them are date coded 3/3/70. One is date coded 7/3071. The last one is date coded 4/23/70. They all have like new beauty rings and center caps. Currently they have a 10 year old set of low mileage BFG radials that look like new. My question is, is there a market here for date coded original wheels? Should I dismount the tires and sell the rims individually. Thanks for any advice...

Hey,
To answer your questions, for some NCRS guys, dated rims are important for judging , especially the date codes, they have to be within a 6 months range. The tires, which I assume are not original, are not worth anything. They are 10 year old tires. You really don’t want to drive on them at high speed or long distance. If they blow, they will do a lot of damage to the fiberglass.

Good Luck

I agree on the tires. They have been in a controlled environment with lots of Armor All applied to both sides of each tire. They look like new and would be great for a trailer queen or show car. I would dismount and sell the rims individually if there is a demand for them...

The center caps, of course, aren’t correct. What about the trim rings? Lots of grippers around the edge, or 4 brackets spaced 90 degrees apart with one of them right outside the valve stem hole?

As always, it depends on the situation.

I personally have hunted for multiple sets of dated wheels for my cars. Pretty sure that I put together three sets for my old 1971… Definitely two sets each for my 1969 and 1970. To me, it makes a difference, to others not so much.

You simply need to find the right buyer.

Trim rings and caps are aftermarket.

Give up on the tires having any value. I know it hurts to look at what seems to be in new perfectly good condition but internally they are shot and as previously stated can come apart effectively taking an entire fiberglass fender off the car.
The wheels, trim rings, and caps if not curb rashed up are worth probably $500. They’d be worth more if the center caps were correct.
These are what match AZ wheels…

I’m on my way to that .
I’ve got 2 early AG rally’s which is what I need and have 3 late AG wheels which I’ll eventually replace with early versions when I find them. Just laid out my 4 tab trim rings that I picked up here and there. Picked out the best 4 out of the 10 I have. I’ll probably sell off 4 of the remaining rings to someone who wants spares or will polish the scratches out.
