Leather Wrapped Steering Wheel
Been discussed many times over the years here.
I would like the feel of a thicker leather wheel like a modern car.
Not too many options available at his time:
1) Aftermarket 13/14" diameter wheels, look just OK,
2) Wheel Skins leather wrap, looks pretty good and keep the originality with stock wheel, and lastly
3) Chuck Pelton wrapped stock wheel. I dont know if Chuck is still doing ths or even around. He hasnt been on this site for years.
Leaning toward the Wheel Skins, Anyone have experience with this setup? Pics below are borrowed from a older post her!! TIA

I was wondering the same for my 79 vette. I was thinking about changing out the steering wheel or wrapping it.
1)Any idea what is best with most original form/function?
2)How hard is it to change out the steering wheel? I was thinking of just buying a replacement wheel from ZIP.
3)Has anyone successfully applied a skin or wrap to the stock wheel?
I bought a $20 quality leather DIY wrap kit years ago. It took about 1.5 hrs. to install it.
Hobby Lobby sells true leather lacing, rather than the vinyl lacing that is supplied in the kit.
I find the stock steering wheels often to be just too darn big, especially without T/T option. I find the smaller diameter leather-wrapped wheel much preferable, especially with power steering. My $.02 …

I have skinny arms...so the 15" wheel is good for leg clearance and the manual steering is good for the (future) biceps.
I need to find another wheel skin/wrap, i had this one for some 30 plus years but it got brittle and i removed it, cant remember where i got it tho.
What is the size of a stock 75 steering wheel?
See if the Vendors on the right side of this screen have a leather wrap kit.
Also try the internet, but don't buy the inexpensive kit...try to buy a kit that has free return shipping in case the leather is sub-standard.
It about 40 minutes to swap out the old steering wheel with a new steering wheel. I watched a YouTube video on removing and replacing the steering wheel. It was one of the easiest things I have ever done to my Vette.

I put two of the classic steering wheel covers on to get a much softer and thicker diameter steering wheel. The second one was for a truck steering wheel and was much wider to be able to go over the first one. Maybe you could do this with the leather ones. Yes...my middle name is "Bubba".

Wow! That's interesting. Think I'll pass none the less.

I like it! (FLASHBACK ALERT: In Nam we doorgunners would bite down on a piece of leather in combat...or else we would grit our teeth so hard that we would chip them )
