Default Accelerator Cable Issues

My cable makes a fairly hard turn where it comes through the firewall. It has a small kink in the middle of the cable. The heat shield forces a round about route to the carburetor. The PO replaced the cable. Is it possible that it is too long? My gas pedal is sticking which I assume is caused by the kink and the bend. Is there any adjustment at the firewall until I have time to replace it? How do I avoid the same situation when I replace it? Hopefully you can see the problem. It’s tough to get good pictures.

Looking at your photos nothing jumps out at me. Compared to my photo it looks the about same. One thing I do notice is you have the wrong coil mounting bracket. The coil should be more vertical.

Tha cable looks to be the correct length.
GM engineering...the thru-hole in the firewall behind the speedometer needs to be higher so the cable doesn't curve down so much. It seems the cable was routed INBOARD of the vertical bracket at onetime-now is damaged, and also is causing the "sticking problem".
IF you are willing to drill a new hole higher up for a grommet, it would definitely help.

The PO installed a Pertronix Flame Thrower coil. The bracket looks new so he must have replaced it too. Something else to look at in my spare time. Thanks.

By Inboard do you mean to the inside of the shield. I tried it on the outside of the shield after I had the carburetor rebuilt but that really caused the cable to bind up. Thanks.

Well it's on the outside in your photos.
I agree. Looks to be the correct cable.
Double springs on your carb?
Looking real close at your top photo it doesn't look like it.

You're right. I tried the other side after reinstalling the carb because I thought it might clean up the bends a little but that didn't work at all.
