I did some googling but i can seem to find if anyone offers a shorter tilt steering column for my 70. I'm pretty tall and would like to move the steering wheel further away from me to create some room. I'm pretty sure the 77 and later columns are shorter but it seems like rebuilt stock stuff is around 2k which is a bit much. Hence going aftermarket. Anyone know if such a column exists?
Are you using the transmission lock...ie backdrive cable that locks the column and transmission? If not the 77 to 82 will be a good option, but with the 78 to 82 the plastic shroud will need to be cut to clear the dash.
An ididit column will be tilt only and with the mounting kit will cost about $1500.

A steering wheel with less "dish" will get the wheel farther away. I'm 6'3 and I thought the same thing as you but after installing my Momo wheel with less dish the steering wheel now hits my legs. Tilt steering is the only fix for us tall guys.
I'm 6'4" and 270lbs, installed a 14" Mid America Motorworks wheel and have no problem fitting. Tilt steering would be nice but I can still fit without the wheel hittng my legs in my '69.
