Today is March 28th, my corvettes 55th birthday, there was a solar eclipse that day... 1968 is said to be the year that shattered America. It was our deadliest year in Vietnam. Lyndon Johnson abdicated the presidency and Bobby Kennedy was killed for seeking it. Martin Luther King Jr was assassinated, riots exploded in cities across America. Elvis laid his final plans for a comeback, Hey Jude was number 1 on top of the pops, steppenwolf's magic carpet ride was number 1 on the billboard hit chart. the big Mac was available nationwide...but most importantly one of the most badass American icons came to market the c3 Corvette! The best selling generation of Corvette to date.
My coupes was 26 March 68. I never cared much for the looks of the C-2's. I spent 23 March 1967 to 23 March 1968 in Vietnam. When I got home on leave, I could not believe what a 68 Corvette looked like! It looked like a fighter jet with the wings sawed off!!! Nothing looked like that then or now! Lou.
