On my 1972 454 it looks like there should be a chrome cover over the distributer area like
on my 76. What is this called and is it available? What is its purpose? Also, the metal shields on spark plug wires on right side of car are grounded but the four on left are not. Is this correct? Thanks
The distributor shield was still used but I'm not 100% sure the braided sleeved spark plug wires were still used in 74 or not see answer next post, shielded wires still used on cars with radio option

All big block Corvettes with a factory installed radio came with braided spark plug wires, including the 74's.

The shielding is there to prevent radio interference by the ignition system. If you have the braided steel covered wires, all of them should be grounded to the threaded posts on the shielding top box supports. Big blocks only used the top shield, with the braided wires replacing the covers used on the wires and plugs on small blocks.

Just to pick nits, the photo above is incorrect – the braided bonding points are not to each valve cover bolt. The braids are paired under one bolt. It varies which bolts depending on driver or passenger side.
