Default Vacuum Canister Help

I have a 1971 Coupe with the original small block and a three speed automatic that I'm attempting to renovate, not restore. A good looking driver that I can enjoy is my goal and I'm a glutton for punishment. I just discovered part of the canister is missing. I see it has three ports. One connects to the tank vent assembly, one connects to the PCV system and I believe the other one connects to a ported vacuum source at the carb. If you look at the photos you will see I am missing the "Cap" that has the nipple for the carb connection.
Here are a few of my main questions:
1. Is it just a cap with a port on it or does it have some type of built in valve?
2. Does anything go under it or does it just pop onto the round lip?
3. Does anybody know where I could get one?

I will attach a few pictures of my project that are totally unrelated to this post just to make you feel better. When you see them, you will know what I mean.
Thanks,
Mark

This is how I found it. It sat for 25 years in a garage. The mice loved it!

Lifted the body to replace the fuel and brake lines. Maybe I should say I lowered the frame instead.

Donor front clip after being removed from body and stripped of 12 coats of paint. That's right, I said 12.

Stripped back half. Only 3 coats were on this part.

Found the source of the water leak coming into the PS side.

Here it is today. All bonded back together.

Hey Mr.K.
Heres what’s missing on your evap canister. It’s called a purge valve. This is one of mine that I’ve restored. There’s a spring inside, and a rubber seal, and of course you’re missing cap. This style was used thru ‘73. Unfortunately none of these parts are reproduced. You’ll need to search EBay, or maybe someone here on the forum has some parts. Good luck with your resto. Seems to be progressing nicely.
Hope this helps.
Tooch

What the original canister top should look like.

Spring with cap removed.

What retains that cap? Does it just snap on and off?

Yes, it just snaps over the rim.

Thanks for the quick reply and the clear photos. I'm heading to the Carlisle show next week so I guess I will be looking for a canister with those parts on it.

Thanks for the compliment, but I owe previous forum members a lot. I spent hours scouring older posts trying to wrap my mind around this task. It really was not that difficult to do, but I did spend many hours getting things to the point where they would fit together without putting any stress on the panels. I must have put that front clip on and off a dozen times before I was ready to bond it in place. I'm new to Corvettes and I have to say, they are an interesting animal to work on.

My canister on my 71 LS5 was defective and was creating a big vacuum leak. Couldn't find a reasonably priced replacement so I removed it, plugged the lines, and put on a vented gas cap.
