Just got my 1982 CE in! I've looked around and cannot find much information about exhaust on the crossfire engine. I was thinking about just cutting the stock mufflers off and putting bullets or maybe some FM 40's in there (if they fit)? I had an 80 series FM on my 98 v6 firebird, headers/piped/FM american thunder on my 98 ws6 and a FM on my 2000...later changed to headers/piped/GMMG catback. I've been disappinted in the sound of all of these except the american thunder (i think it had a glass pack on the I pipe?). I have no idea what to put on it. Can you guys give me your opinions on this (if you has a 82 or 84 w/the CF engine). Also, does anyone know the mounting depts for the 4x6 fronts and 6x9 rear speakers for the c3? Thanks!

If I had an 1983 CE I'd put it in a museum or auction it off rather than playing with the exhaust... Just saying

Just razzing you. The 82 CE are beautiful cars.
I'm sure someone will be along to help with your exhaust question. Also check Corvette Central to see what they offer for systems and parts, might give you an idea of what's possible

There are a few threads on this Forum on speakers. IIRC, they are very shallow. In the front, very specific 8 Ohm 4x6 speakers are required. In the rear, you can space them out a bit. Don't cut a hole in your dash, though. Use a hidden BlueTooth amp instead.
What are your goals? More power or just better sound? Just looking to replace the mufflers or full exhaust? If you are just looking for more power the exhaust is not the first place to look. The Crossfire just need something that fits the 79-82. I replaced mine with OEM replica's I got from Davie's Corvette. Sound isn't all that bad actually. It's perfect for cruising but probably not going to be aggressive enough for you if you like glass packs.

Many, if not a slight majority (so, most) C3 Forum brethren here report disappointment with the dreaded 'exhaust drone' using aftermarket mufflers. Then, the discussion becomes 'I can deal with it' or 'I turn up the radio', or 'I avoid that RPM band'. In my case that would eventually evolve into another widely reported forum disappointment, `I miss having my wife going with me on drives on a beautiful day' and so last year after extensive study - including here - I opted to replace my original 1982 Walker-made mufflers with original Walker mufflers that bolted right up without welding anything, and to my complete surprise sound utterly amazing... throaty and, there's zero dreaded exhaust drone in any RPM band. I had 'cherry bomb' glass packs on my former '68 Camaro and once was enough. You'll find that the C3 already calls a LOT of attention to itself without need for glass packs. Plus, if I might say so as a fellow, diehard C3 enthusiast who was inspired by the C3's epic loud & proud 'bad boy' attitude and reputation as a kid ... but, if loud, your CE with its subdued silver beige paint and its interior and exterior specifically designed to present as the epitome of civilized, luxury cruising/relaxed touring would seem to diminish its classy and expensive perception that it advertised and exudes.
Bottom line, I agree with the other posters that there are other ways to optimize your Crossfire's engine performance.
PM me if you want me to post the hidden 300W amp (it has to be cool-operating design) and rear/front speaker setup that installed and works awesome without sacrificing precious cargo space that a sound bar often requires. I don't have the info/pics here on my phone.

From: Arizona - If you don’t know CFI, STOP proliferating the myths around it...
As far as mufflers go, I installed the Hooker Max Flow mufflers and fit like stock. I like my music, but also like to listen to my motor purrr... I do not have exact numbers for the speaker depth, but they are shallow vs a normal 6x9 rear speaker, but I did replace mine front and back, just don't remember with what brand anymore. GL with your 83 CE.
I finagled a pair of Rockford Fosgate R169X2 speakers in the rear stock location on my 82. The depth isn't the issue rather the diameter of the magnet's. For the dash, Rockford Fosgate R14X2 with Scosche SA-64 Speaker Mounting Brackets. Those fit perfectly in the dash. I like my stock muffler's.
