Default Th400 deeper pan?

My ‘72 has the th400 which is leaking. Just looking to do some maintenance and a few upgrades-will any deeper th400 pan work for my car?

I am running a 9" torque converter (2800 stall) so I figured I need a deeper pan for capacity and cooling
Been running this on my '74 since 2000, no probem but the drivers side exhaust pipe is very close

Amazon Amazon

No, The dipstick is measuring the top level of fluid (how low below the top edge the pan) not the depth of the fluid

I think he's refering to the pickup tube for the filter. usually when you put a deeper pan on there is a extended pickup tube to move the filter down to the same height above the bottom of the pan. i have the TCI deep pan on my car and you do lose a little ground clearance but have not had any problems.

Armybyrd,
Check around on EBay. Sometimes racers do an upgrade to their tranny and will list their old pan on there.

I found a Hughes, cast aluminum, 2 extra Qt with drain plug for a song. It was in wonderful shape.

Then you will need a new filter, filter extension and maybe a blue reusable silicone gasket. Don't forget, its likely you will need longer pan bolts.
