Default Blower motor issues on 73

Working on a friend's car here. 73 non AC. His blower motor is not working. A quick check on the blower motor and the ground it good!
it's getting 12 volts to the motor. But doesn't work! As soon as I hook the positive feed line on the power goes out. I pull it off the wire gets power again.
Also the positive feed "orange wire" is live all the time even with key off. Fuse good and nothing burnt on or in the fuse box. I hooked a separate 12 volts from elsewhere and the blower motor works. I hooked up a extra blower motor I have to his existing wires and it don't work on my spare motor. So motor is not the issue.
I didn't take the switch out yet or the resistor out! Before I start ripping g and pulling to get to theses parts..

Has anyone run into this issue? Any suggestions before I get deeper? Thx

Search the "Willcox Corvette" technical section...there may be a troubleshooting section for the blower motor.

I am afraid the Willcox Site is gone. Look at the relay mounted to the heater box under the hood. My 73 with air had issues with the plastic plug attached to the relay was deformed and the brass connector for the “high speed” was not making a good connection. Turn ignition on and wiggle connector, if no fan then pull of connector and inspect. Lastly find the wiring schematic for your specific car.

I thought it was just me not able to find it..
this is a non ac car. So there is blower motor relay. The more i am digging into this the more confused im getting. I started thinking the ignition switch is NG. Because there is power feeding the blower more all the time even with key off. I disconced the harness to the switch and the red and Orange are live even disconnected. Shouldn't the red only be live? Orange should be live when key is on?
I traced the orange wire and it feeds back to the Alternator which then goes back to the ampmeter. Shouldnt the ampmeter only be live when the key is on? Or is that live even with key off? Or is it the Alternator NG and it's sending power to the switch all the time? The wires on the Alternator I an referring to are the two in the plastic that go on the side of the Alternator. Not the main feed! Any help?
