Removing hood emblem for replacement

Are you referring to the crossed flags nose emblem between the headlights? There are no emblems on an 81 hood.
The 81 nose emblem is attached by double sided foam emblem tape. You can remove it by using a thin piece of Stren or similar fishing line, or dental floss. Hold the line close to the body and slide it under the emblem and tape. There are two alignment pins, one under each flag, that will prevent you from going fully from one side to the other, but if you work in from each side and front to back you should be able to break loose enough of the tape, to pull the emblem free. Once off it will leave some of the foam tape which you can clean off with 3M adhesive remover, Goo Be Gone or some other similar cleaner.
Someone else here may have other ways to remove glued on emblems, but the fishing line has worked great for me in the past.
