My cousin has a 70 GTO and my uncle has a 66, both with glass packs, they sound awesome. I was going with off road chambered mufflers but voiced my idea on glass packs....my dad told me glass packs are a big no no, they are the wrong "sound" for a vette....but aren't side pipes with inserts equivacal to glass packs?

I think the chabered exhaust has a deeper tone. Its a longer tube than most glass packs. The hooker style side pipe has a chambered insert as well. The glass pacs have fiberglass to absorb the sound
I've always liked the SBC glasspack combo. It's on my 61 Impala right now.
I'd probably keep the stock setup on her '71 L48 ... because it's hers. IDK what the problem would be with glasspacks on a Vette ... at least for a chrome bumper Vette with the Gen 1 SBC.
If I were to get a new Z06 ... I'd want that thing hush kitted. that flat plane crank sound just doesn't excite me at all. Love the performance ... not the sound.
I have glasspacks on mine under the sidepipe covers. They come in different lengths. Mine are short enough that you could put 2 end to end if you want. They are red and look like the old Cherry Bombs. They are actually Thrush mufflers. I like the sound, others may not.
Your best bet, is to look at other vett's and see what they have and how they sound. There are a lot of choices and brands of mufflers. Glasspack is a generic term, and different brands will sound different.

I have tried that utilizing the only mode available, YouTube! Sadly videos and sound quality can vary hugely compared to a in person evaluation.
I hate the sound of glasspacks, regardless of length. That said, if you like the sound/tone of a specific muffler, go for it! It's your car, and you should make it as you want.
This is only my opinion, chambered mufflers are basically just expensive glasspacks. And I love the sound of my glasspacks. But a lot of the sound has to do with the rest of the exhaust system. Long tube, equal length headers with an "H" pipe makes it sound just right. Ramhorns with no crossover sound more like a boat or lowrider.
