Default Toasted's 76 Build Thread.

Going to start a build thread because why not?

So got a 76 from my boss for $1000 back in December.

Basic story of my boss got it off a guy who was rebuilding it but went through a divorce and traded it for a running vehicle who then sold it to me for nothing because he has 30 project cars already.
Car came with everything except the drivetrain. Will need to moldings, carpets, and seat upholstery/foam.

Got a 2004 chevy express 6.0l LQ4 for a bottle of rum from the local scrap yard guy. Was missing some parts to get it running but dealt with that today. Needed a starter, alternator, belt, throttle body, TAC module, and gas pedal. Which i got for free or very cheap from our test parts at the shop. Ran a pump in a jerry can and it flashed right up.
Engine has 250,000KMs. After an hr of running the temp started to climb, and i found out why it was at the scrap yard.

Blown head gaskets. easy fix, but for another day. Next is cut open the oil filter and drain the oil. If thats all good, then im cutting the cab off and pulling the engine/trans and all wiring.

Sounds good.... actually sounds great.
Is there supposed to be a part 2 and a part 3?
I would not take that on where I live because I'd have to put up with the smog police on a 1976.

Pulled the cab off, took everything I needed. Bought the van for a bottle of rum. Sold the bumper for 50$. 😂

Engine is apart, slight scuffs in crank bearings so I decided to rebuild it.
Ordered this kit 😂

I know I know. Do it right not twice.
But. I plan on going away from stock later, this is just to get it running for now.

Going to send the 4l80e and have it gone through. Any common failure points with them?
Will post engine photos later.

Tore the engine apart on the weekend.
Everything looks super clean for having 350,000kms

The cam bearings dried out on the top sides from the engine sitting for 3 years, the pistons rings left marks in the cylinder walls.
Going to rebearing, ring , and hone it.
The low profile oil pan came in today. Got it for $303 from black Friday.

Conrod journals

Main bearing

Ring marks in cylinder walls

Cam bearings are shot

Now I need cam bearings, a oil pump, lifters and timing set
 May as well do everything.
Quitting my job January so I have December to get my engine rebuilt and get it and the transmission into the car before I loose access to my hoist.

Edit: Pistons look good other then some scuffs on the skirts. Most have them anyways.
