Default First Corvette, work is cut out for me

Just bought my new project car and boy is it wonderful. 1978 Corvette which i believed to be inspired by Ronald Mcdonald. Managed to drive her 20 miles before i found out the gas gauge was lying at half a tank, then another 20 miles before the exhaust backfired and the engine sputtered out. Havent gotten it to start again since, but new carb just arrived.

Think the one on the left is a baffle switch, the red one on the right is a lock line switch. no clue what the 2 orange ones are though

Looks like a good project.
I agree, that paint scheme is less than stellar.
Cheers brother!

The paint scheme looks inspired by Ronald McDonald, Joel Rosen and Larry Watson....on a serious note welcome!

Welcome to the forum. I see a paint job and wheels in your future. Not to mention some work in that engine bay. A new steering wheel,.........

Thanks for the welcome folks.

My plan for the car so far, Midnight Blue paint eventually, but mostly just restomodding and driving the crap out of it.

I slapped a new edlebrock 1405 on it to replace the one it had. Good news is now the car will start again, but won’t idle at all. So trying to figure out tuning on this thing

Shino, have you ever seen gas spray on a hot Intake or hot exhaust headers? Its scary. And by the time you realize you have an engine fire
the fiberglass is already melting.

I don't know what the fascination is with people that insist on watching gas flow by on the way to the carb. Either glass or clear plastic filter, but they think that is a must have.
And let's not forget to make sure there are a dozen hose clamps along the way.
But that's ok. You have excellent fire insurance, right?

Looks like hose clamps on the A/C line also?

All takes time. You will make it right.

Welcome.
You might want to check the vin number on the car to determine if it is a 78. It is located on the drivers side windshield post by the A pillar. The front and rear emblems on there now are not the 25th anniversary. Clam shell seats only came in the Pace Car. I realize that parts can be changed to suit the owners taste, ie rear bumper, 165mph speedo face, etc....

Good luck with your project car.

my spreadsheet actually has a section of repairs required for day time driving and another for night time driving.

my current plan if I can get the thing running again is to have a professional look over the squishy brakes. Seems too important to leave to inexperience.

The shop I found specializes in classics and track cars. If it doesn’t work out, there’s one recommended by the local corvette club an hour away that I’m also eyeing but would have to get towed too.

Is there anything else safety wise I should be adding?

Nifty car!

If you are going down the LED path, take a look at the thread I made about it. I converted my frog lights to be full-time DRLs, and still function as turn signal indicators, and replaced every single bulb with an LED (except for the 4 headlights).

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...s-learned.html

Where do you live that LED headlights are required for road worthiness?

Looks like a good project! I’d check the msd for malfunctioning. Or the wiring to it. Good luck !

I think somebody is taking you to the cleaners.
Don't let a shop touch this car. Big bucks for nothing but BS.

You need basic tools and knowledge. These cars are simple to work on, compared to mid 80s on up.
