Please help me with identifying this engine. I can't seem to make out the stamp. It looks different the other small block stamps I've seen. Its on a 77 corvette with the L48 or possibly L82...not sure about that either..Thanks for your help! The numbers to me (when the light hits it right) looks like V0135TB with a stamp of 55 on bottom right...

My late 77 block is stamped V07
V = Flint
07 = July
And any of the following 3 suffix codes:
If the last 3 letters of the suffix code are:
TBT 1979 350 a/t, Calif 1500
TBT 1982 305 conv., van 2500

Cant be a 305 if it has the "010" block. Must be a 4" bore 350. Assembly date is January 3rd. See if you can read the casting date on the back of the block to determine what year it was cast. it's behind the intake manifold near where the transmission bolts up.

3970010 is the classic 69' to 79' 350 block which came in either 2 or 4 bolt main. This could be correct for a 77'. The suffix is harder as you can't really see it well.
Pull a valve cover and get the cylinder head casting number and this will help sleuth out what it is.

put some muriatic acid on the pad and let it sit. It should bring up the illegible characters. Stronger acid works better but muriatic you can get at the big box stores.
