HI guys, sick of doing things twice on my 70 small block I powder coated my oil pan put it back together and it leaked, so I purched a new pan and 1 piece gasket put it all together no. leaks BUT when I started the car there was something hitting in the pan do. they make a different think size gasket thanks bob
You mean as in thicker on the side rails? Don't think so Bob. Perhaps you could check different brands. But something hitting on the pan certainly doesn't sound good. I'd pull it back off. Look inside for a witness mark and decide what to do from there. Perhaps it just needs to be masaged in one spot. Perhaps you need to return it.
This happened to me once, and it turned out to be the oil sump pick-up that wasn't sitting down fully in the pan.
The pick-up was getting tapped by the crank as it went around.
Some pans have a baffle that you need to make sure the pick-up gets tucked under as you raise the pan to attach it.
Needs to be re-positioned for more than just the noise - likely not getting adequate oil sucking up into the engine, if this is the cause.
Good Luck!
