Default 200r4 install

Anyone do a 200R4 install in their C3, I'm about to do one on my 1980, hard to find one but Monster Transmission has them as well as Hughes (but twice the money)
wondering what you did for lock up... I'm thinking B&M controller, also TV cable and length... I did these installs back in the 90s but forgot a few things, any additional bracket for TV cable.

I think you've been reading the 200-4R conversion threads.
Here is what the lock kit that I used in mine. No vacuum switch in mine and I have not seen a need for---- if you are interested I'll go find the part number and/or brand.
Below is the diagram of the lockup kit that I have for my 200-4R.
How the circuit works. The IGN (start and run) signal means that the transmission has a constant 12 vdc and is available for 4th gear Overdrive (OD) lockup once the engine is started and/or running.
The OD locks in from a pure pressure signal from within the tranny. Tapping the Brakes will energize the relay coil, and OPEN the Normally Closed Contact at 87A.
THEREFORE --- the tranny will "kick out" of OD once I hit the brakes.
Simple circuit once I understood it. Not the best quality in assembling. I ended up soldering all leads and buying a quality fuse holder and also soldered that into the circuit.

As far as the TV Cable I would recommend getting one of those endoscope cameras for your phone and/or laptop and using it to set up the tv cable. I followed every dang guidance I could find, and I was careful to always NOT have low pressure, but when I dropped my pan to install a better Governor it was obvious that I was nowhere near fully depressed at WOT.
You can eyeball that here:

OK thank you... haven't read any 200R4 threads, its been since the 90s since I've done a 200r4 install, as I remember just playing with TV cable length and adjustment at the linkage. I know B&M now offers an adjustable controller that runs with the stock mechanical speedometer... some items were probably not available in the 90s as they are today for this install.

I talked with a local transmission shop today and gonna have them do the install just wanted to make sure I have everything I need that i cant get locally before bringing them everything.
talked with Hughes today about this but they want $4k just for the transmission, built for 650HP... clearly overkill for my 190HP stock L48... I can buy a 350HP capable rebuilt for $2k

great thanks, this was Hughes recommendation but i wasnt familiar with it, anything additional needed for this controller or pretty complete to install?

I can't really remember what I used in the 90s if anything... might have just dealt with the bog.

Thanks again.

Your 1980 already has everything you need for Lockup Torque Converter, the T350C is the transmission and the “C” is for Lockup Converter

thank you... so are you saying I won't need a "lock up" kit with a 200R4 install?
spoke with Bowtie today and probably who I'm buying the transmission from, they offer the lock up, cable and bracket kit as well

Here. A couple of threads that will probably answer the questions you have. Avoid shortcuts dealing the TV Cable and the Lockup. You don't wanna be rebuilding a tranny just because of that:

thanks... my initial drive was comfort and familiar, I've installed 3-4 200r4s back in the 90s, they were easy to find back then and a pretty easy install and preformed well for the vehicles I put them in.
I know there are other options now however it's still a straight forward install, same cross member, same driveshaft length, non electronc so it was just a default for me and nothing more, i have a low mile fully restored 1980 and if anyone ever wanted to bring it back to original its an easy task from the 200 back to the 350. I have brand new true dual through the one sided 1980 cross member, most transmission shops now build the 200r4 higher performance with install kits, a bit less complicated conversion all in.
I really just wanted the the extra gearing on the freeway but the stouter first gear will be nice too.

I've talked with Hughes, Monster Transmission, Bowtie and Transmission Depot, they all have built 200R4s though Hughes was pricey. I've also found a local used 200R4 and talked with two local Transmission shops that will rebuild higher performance w/2k stall for about $1,000 and install about $600-$700, traveling right now for work but will make a purchase by weeks end.

Please do keep up us to date. I'm contemplating the same for my 75 and will be interested to see what this swap looks like in 2023.

If you are going to change out your transmission anyway, why not install this lockup upgrade kit? It will depend a bit on the friction material you choose, but the one on the right can lock up all 4 brake calipers, and the one on the left will let you directly couple the engine output to the transmission input.
