Default 71 Corvette engine

Today I made the purchase of a completely disassembled engine that the seller said was the original engine from a 71 2-top roadster that he had sold previously with a crate engine installed. It does have the CJL code and the partial Corvette VIN stamp. It has date matching 71 487 heads with 1.94 intake valves. It has a set of rods and 2244P 030 pistons which are like new. It looks like it was eating the bearings, as the crank doesn't look great and there is obvious wear on both rod and main bearings (all present and accounted for). It came with a nice dark red/brown distributor cap with brass terminals, and it came with about 5 plug wires. No distributor. It came with the oil pan, the timing cover, a nice, clean double roller timing set, unknown cam and lifters (will not/would not reuse.) It also came with the cast iron Qjet intake, both ram's horn Corvette exhaust manifolds,valve covers, rockers, pushrods, nuts, and some other engine hardware. It did include the chrome ignition shields- both sides, the middle box, and the 2 stands that hold it all up, as well as the complete, excellent condition dual snorkel air cleaner! 350 Turbo-Fire 270HP sticker intact. The rockers, nuts, pushrods, etc, have that fresh from the machine shop clean about them. Remember that? The heads are the same way- look fresh from the machine shop. The bearings are all 010, dated 1987. So my guess is that some previous owner did a rebuild and got very little run time on it before it wiped the bearings. Maybe they forgot the oil pump intermediate shaft - who knows?

Anyway, I just thought I'd share. I wish I'd found this years ago when my 69 ragtop had a non-Corvette 010 block in it.

Big picture minus block

487 heads

87 dated left manifold. Im guessing replaced at rebuild time.

The air cleaner looks nice, but it isn’t a ‘71. Originals did not have the thermac ports in the snouts, and had a chrome lid.

I have a ‘71 distributor from a 270hp that needs refreshing, if you need one.

Dizzy tag reads 1112050.

Actually I have the whole 270hp long block from my ‘71 on a pallet. Some previous owner replaced it with a crate motor. I know the cam is broken, but beyond that I don’t know the condition.
I don’t really have any plans for it, I was just hanging onto it in case I wanted to restore numbers matching, but I doubt that will ever happen.

Some grit blasting...some paint...some polishing and all those parts will look good on a new/reworked sbc bare block.
