I am a novice when it comes to the electrical system. I have a 1975 stingray and I have been trying to fix some electrical issues. I have been successful fixing some, but I am also at a lost for some. I am working on the console and dashboard lights. In the gauge console, I fixed the door ajar light, the headlight on light, all gauges even the mechanical clock. I replaced all of the bulbs with LED's. I know that the gauge lights are grounded individually. MY question is i have the entire dashboard apart, how can I tell if the console /dashboard lights work. the speedometer and tachometer are not back on, but the center console and the shift console are. I turn on lights, but nothing illuminates, except the seat belt, door ajar and headlight warning lights. clock works too. How do i check to see if the background lighting works. Headlight switch is connected , but not on dash panel. THanks for any advise
To me, it sounds like you are getting a good ground to the center cluster gauges otherwise your clock or your other two warning lights wouldn't work.
Are you certain your INST LPS fuse is good?
Make sure your headlight switch **** is rotated so instrument lighting is at it's brightest level...
The headlight switch has a internal rheostat for dimming dash and center cluster gauge lighting.
Be sure to use the metal grounding lever that goes from the headlight switch to the metal on the speedometer housing. That is where are the lights on the drivers dash get their ground.
