Hello everyone, can anyone tell me if the 2 transverse bolt holes that is used by the differential mounting bracket go through the diff. oil ?
I had the differential rebuilt about 2 years ago and now it's leaking from there. It's hard to see if it's the pinion seal but I don't think it is.
The other possibility is it's cracked, but that also I can not see.
Pinion seal, spline seal, poor work is typically one of the causes. Cracked housing, very rare. Oil type and additives changed over the years, sometimes one positive thing creates a negative side effect.
when replacing the seal be aware of the pinion yoke preloading- providing it was done correctly the last time. If it's too loose the pinion will crash into the posi case, if it's too tight you will be revisiting rebuilding the diff again.
When you turn the front yoke slowly from clockwise to where it quits turning at counterclockwise/then visa versa.....
how much di the yoke travel from stopto stop?
Do the same to each side yoke and write down the amount of travel.
Can you PUSH the main yoke in and pull it? How much travel did you measure?
These answers might give GTR1999 a clue as to how much slack is in the gearing.
