I had a good corvette restoration guy tell me he would cut off the tops of the fenders, about 12" back from the windshield, a triangle shaped piece, and repair the windshield that way.
In his mind that is easier than puling the clip.
But I guess he is confident he can make that new vertical seam on the fender dissappear.
I don't trust my skills doing that. And he can't fit my small job in. He does complete restorations.
So my clip is coming off, I guess.
It is possible. Take a look at this link https://www.corvettekingdom.co.uk/WO...-frame-repairs I used this method to replace my lower windscreen corners which had rusted away. However my A pillar posts were still good, if you've got problems there then it might be easier to remove the clip
I have heard of cutting the corners of the fenders off to make this repair. And no doubt that would allow access to repair the lower corners.
it's the glassing the fenders back together that would worry me. I have some older glass repairs on my car. And when they were done were perfect. And when they were 10 years old if you looked close you could just make out where the repair was made.
Now at 20 plus years the repairs stand out. Fibreglass just keeps settling over the years. I have a 20 plus year old repair on my left front fender that is really bugging me now. I need to get it in and get it redone.
So cutting and glassing the fenders just doesn't sound like a good idea to me. There is no factory bond joint there.
